About the event

There's something different about building things that stay. Our carpentry sessions have already put a firewood shed and many benches on the property — all built by kids, all still in use. This term we're taking on trail bridges.

A few stretches of our trails turn soft and wet in the fall, so we'll be building boardwalks and small bridges to carry us across. Kids will measure, cut, drill, and fasten, working alongside our instructors on real structures that the whole group will be walking over for years to come.

We supply everything — drills, wood, fasteners, and all the rest. No experience needed, and no tools to bring. These are the kinds of skills that stay with a person: how to read a measurement, how to drive a screw straight, how to work as part of a crew, and how it feels to stand back at the end of…
