About the event
Walk our trails and you'll find shelters the kids have built in terms past — teepees and A-frames still standing out there, holding up season after season. This term we're trying something different.
We're building a dugout shelter: partly into the ground, where the earth itself does the work of holding heat. It's one of the oldest and warmest shelter designs there is, and it's a genuinely different build from anything the group has taken on before.
Don't worry about the digging. We'll have a backhoe in ahead of time to prep the site, so the kids can get straight to the building — framing, roofing, and packing it out with what the forest gives us.
